“It was like Christ was coming to me,” is how Alex described the crucial season when he trusted in Jesus Christ. Alex was a student at City University of London. During the campus welcome fair, Campus Outreach staff member Garrett Collenback met and befriended Alex. He looked for ways to love and communicate the gospel. Over months, God worked through Garrett and others, and Alex gave his life to the Lord.
The absence of a Christian student movement at City University of London birthed an idea that led to an opportunity! With a distinct purpose in mind, CO London worked with stateside staff so Alex could visit the US and connect with Campus Outreach summer projects in Daytona and Orlando. He met many like-minded Christian students his age who were passionate about knowing God, studying his word, and impacting their campus. Garrett challenged Alex to dream about what could happen at City University if all he was experiencing became the norm.
Back on campus, Alex invited his friend Anthony to read the Bible; now Anthony is a follower of Jesus. While visiting home for Christmas, Alex read the Bible with his brother, Mark; now Mark is a follower of Jesus. Mark started at City University last fall and met with Garrett, Alex, Anthony, Tanaka, and Sean all year in the first CO London discipleship group.
It has been a joy for Garrett to witness all God is doing in these men. Any ministry update He sends includes photos of the guys in various settings as Garrett shares his life with them and points them toward Jesus. When asked about his role, Garrett shared, “It’s a joy to spend time with these guys and see them grow. It’s great to see them involved in serving the church. Ultimately, I’m just building on what God’s already written in their lives.”
Join us in praying for these developing laborers. Mark and Sean will be returning to campus in the fall. Meanwhile, Tanaka, Alex, and Anthony just graduated, got jobs in London, and will serve in their local church.
